Who can take part

  • You have been diagnosed with insomnia (trouble falling or staying asleep).
  • You are willing to fill out questionnaires about your sleep habits.
  • You are not taking any medications that affect the brain (like sedatives, sleep aids, or painkillers) for at least the past month.
  • You do not have other sleep disorders like sleep apnea, restless legs, or a condition where you act out dreams.
  • You do not have a history of seizures, diabetes, or kidney failure, and you can have an MRI of your head.
  • You do not drink alcohol regularly or abuse alcohol, and you have not had any late nights or alcohol in the last 2 weeks.
