Comparing antibiotic treatments for heart valve infections
Part of Heart & circulation, Infections clinical trials.
This trial tests whether a treatment without rifampin works as well as one with rifampin for a type of heart valve infection caused by staph bacteria. It aims to find a simpler and safer option for patients with an infected artificial heart valve.

This trial measures how your body handles certain intravenous antibiotics used for endocarditis, an infection of the heart valves. It may help doctors understand the best antibiotic dosing for people with valve infections.
This study compares two approaches for people with a blood infection caused by Staphylococcus aureus who are at low risk for heart infection (VIRSTA score <3). Half of the participants will get a standard echocardiogram (heart ultrasound), and the other half will not, to see if skipping the test is safe and effective.
This trial tests if the antibiotic oritavancin can fight stubborn infections in pacemakers or similar heart devices caused by bacteria resistant to standard treatments. It may help people who cannot take common antibiotics due to allergies.
This study looks at ways to lower the risk of infective endocarditis, a serious heart infection that can happen after certain bacteria enter the bloodstream from the mouth. You may be asked to pause routine dental cleanings for a period while they track dental health and infection risk.
This study gathers information from patients with a heart infection called endocarditis to help doctors better understand and treat the condition. Anyone aged 16 or older with confirmed or suspected endocarditis who is being treated at Barts Heart Centre may be able to join.
This trial tests adding the antibiotic rifampin to standard treatment for staph infections on prosthetic heart valves. It aims to see if this combination improves outcomes.
