Who can take part

  • You are 22 years old or older
  • You are admitted or will be admitted to a participating hospital and are being seen by a heart or vascular surgery team
  • You are at high risk for a stroke during your hospital stay because of a procedure like heart valve replacement or carotid artery repair, or because of other factors like being over 80, having had a stroke before, or having atrial fibrillation
  • You do not have pre-existing weakness in one arm before the procedure
  • You do not have an amputation above the wrist
