This trial tests a stem cell treatment (PNEUMOSTEM®) for very premature infants who have early pulmonary hypertension, a condition where blood pressure in the lungs is too high. The goal is to improve breathing outcomes for babies on breathing machines.

Who can take part

  • Your baby was born at 28 weeks or less, or weighed less than 1,250 grams at birth
  • Your baby needs a breathing tube and ventilator continuously
  • Your baby is diagnosed with early pulmonary hypertension within 14 days of birth (confirmed by heart ultrasound or need for nitric oxide therapy)
  • Your baby does not have severe heart defects (except a common open blood vessel called PDA)
  • Your baby does not have serious lung malformations like diaphragmatic hernia
  • Your baby has not had surgery within 3 days before or after the stem cell dose
