Vitamin D for pediatric Graves' disease

This study tests whether adding vitamin D therapy to the usual Graves' disease treatment (methimazole) can improve thyroid function and lower antibody levels in children. If your child is between 9 and 17 and recently diagnosed, they may be able to participate.

Who can take part

  • Your child must be between 9 and 17 years old with a recent diagnosis of Graves' disease.
  • They should be about to start methimazole, a common thyroid medication.
  • Blood tests must show low TSH, high T3/T4, and positive antibodies (TSI or TRAb).
  • Their vitamin D level at the start should be 80 ng/mL or lower.
  • They must not have serious calcium problems, kidney or liver issues, or take certain medications that affect vitamin D or thyroid.
  • They cannot be pregnant or have certain types of thyroiditis without Graves' antibodies.
