Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older
- You have leg weakness caused by a slipped disk in your lower back
- You are scheduled for a single-level microdiskectomy (surgery on one disk only)
- You have not had back surgery before
- You do not have cauda equina syndrome (a severe nerve condition) or other nerve damage from conditions like diabetes
- You have not needed another back surgery within 6 months after the first one
