Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You have leg weakness caused by a slipped disk in your lower back
  • You are scheduled for a single-level microdiskectomy (surgery on one disk only)
  • You have not had back surgery before
  • You do not have cauda equina syndrome (a severe nerve condition) or other nerve damage from conditions like diabetes
  • You have not needed another back surgery within 6 months after the first one
