Comparing clot-busting drugs for lung infections

Pleural Infection

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You have a confirmed lung infection (empyema or complicated parapneumonic effusion) with poor fluid drainage (less than 150 ml in 24 hours) after a chest tube is placed
  • You have at least two signs of infection (like fever, high CRP or white blood cell count, or complex fluid seen on ultrasound)
  • Your infected fluid meets one or more lab criteria (e.g., looks like pus, has high LDH, low pH, low glucose, or positive culture)
