Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You had open-heart surgery in the last 10 days to repair a heart valve or replace it with a tissue (biological) valve.
  • You have atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat) and need blood thinners.
  • You do not have a mechanical (man-made) heart valve.
  • You do not have severe kidney or liver disease, and you are not bleeding or at high risk for bleeding.
