Who can take part

  • You are 10 years old or older.
  • You have idiopathic scoliosis (curved spine with no known cause) and are scheduled for a specific type of back surgery called posterior spinal fusion.
  • You are generally healthy (classified as ASA I or II by your anesthesiologist).
  • You are not allergic to morphine or ketamine pain medicines.
  • You do not have serious liver, kidney, heart, lung, or brain conditions, and you are not on certain other medicines (like MAO inhibitors or tricyclic antidepressants).
