This study closely follows people with type 2 diabetes who have early signs of diabetic retinopathy (damage to the retina from diabetes) to see how the condition changes over time. It does not test a new treatment but monitors the eye's health closely. It may be a good fit if you have diabetic retinopathy that does not need immediate treatment.

Who can take part

  • You have type 2 diabetes, as defined by standard medical criteria.
  • You are between 35 and 80 years old.
  • Your vision is good (equivalent to at least 20/40 with glasses or contacts).
  • You have a specific, early stage of diabetic retinopathy that does not need immediate laser or injection therapy.
  • You have not had prior laser treatment (panretinal photocoagulation) or injections in the eye for retinopathy.
  • You have not had eye surgery in the last 6 months.
