Who can take part

  • You have cirrhosis and recently had a variceal bleed that was high-risk (based on liver disease severity and active bleeding seen during endoscopy).
  • You are between 18 and 75 years old.
  • You have not taken carvedilol, any non-selective beta blocker, or midodrine in the last 5 days.
  • You do not have severely low heart rate (below 60 at rest) or low blood pressure (below 100/60 mm Hg).
  • You do not have severe liver disease (MELD score above 30 or serum lactate above 12 mmol/L).
