Comparing two TIPS techniques to prevent variceal rebleeding in cirrhosis

Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 75 years old
  • You have been diagnosed with cirrhosis (scarring of the liver)
  • You have had severe bleeding from enlarged veins in the esophagus or stomach, or a high risk of rebleeding
  • You are scheduled to receive a TIPS procedure (a stent placed in the liver to lower blood pressure)
  • You do not have other causes of portal hypertension (like a blocked liver vein or a clot in the main portal vein)
  • You do not have active cancer or a serious infection
