Who can take part
- You are between 18 and 75 years old
- You have been diagnosed with cirrhosis (scarring of the liver)
- You have had severe bleeding from enlarged veins in the esophagus or stomach, or a high risk of rebleeding
- You are scheduled to receive a TIPS procedure (a stent placed in the liver to lower blood pressure)
- You do not have other causes of portal hypertension (like a blocked liver vein or a clot in the main portal vein)
- You do not have active cancer or a serious infection
