Can stable heart failure patients stop some medications?

This trial is testing whether people whose heart failure has improved (with better pumping strength) can safely stop taking some of their heart medications. It is for stable patients who have had significant improvement in their heart function from a low point.

Who can take part

  • You have had heart failure and been on certain heart medications (MRA and ACE/ARB/ARNI) for at least one year.
  • Your heart's pumping power (ejection fraction) used to be 35% or less, but now it is 40% or more and improved by more than 10 points.
  • Your heart's main chamber size is within normal range (≤59 mm for men, ≤53 mm for women).
  • You have mild or no heart failure symptoms (NYHA class I or II) and low levels of certain proteins (BNP/NT-proBNP) in your blood.
  • You have been stable for the last year—no hospital stays or need for extra water pills for fluid buildup.
  • Your heart failure is due to a specific cause such as a past heart procedure, myocarditis, a fast heartbeat over time, alcohol, chemotherapy, pregnancy, valve repair, or blocked arteries that were opened up.
