Who can take part

  • You are in the intensive care unit (ICU) and need a breathing tube for at least 3 days.
  • You have a tracheostomy tube with a suction port above the cuff.
  • You or your family have signed a consent form.
  • You do not have severe neck problems, bleeding risks, or a lung infection already.
  • You do not have a history of certain cancers or conditions that affect saliva production.
