Who can take part

  • Your baby must be born before 28 weeks of pregnancy or weigh less than 1000 grams at birth.
  • Your baby must be in a participating NICU in the Barcelona area.
  • Your baby must not have had any red blood cell transfusions before birth or after birth.
  • Your baby cannot have certain conditions like severe immune reactions, fluid buildup, major birth defects, or infections passed from mother to baby.
  • Your baby cannot need an immediate blood transfusion due to emergencies like bleeding or blood clotting problems.
  • You must sign a consent form to allow your baby to join the study.
