Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You are currently receiving veno-arterial ECMO (a machine that pumps blood and oxygen for your heart and lungs)
  • You have a pulmonary artery catheter (a tube in your heart's blood vessels that measures pressures)
  • Your doctors expect you to need ECMO support for at least 48 hours
  • Your heart can be clearly seen on echocardiogram (heart ultrasound)
  • You do not have severe brain injury or conditions that would affect brain oxygen measurements
