Who can take part
- Age 18–40 years old
- Diagnosed with stage 2 or stage 3 type 1 diabetes (early to intermediate stages, not long-standing disease)
- Blood tests show at least one diabetes-related autoantibody (immune marker), with two or more preferred
- Pancreas still producing some insulin (shown by C-peptide test results above certain thresholds)
- No other types of diabetes, severe organ disease, active infections, or uncontrolled blood sugar crises
- Willing to use reliable birth control for 1 year if able to become pregnant
