This study tests whether professional dental cleaning after a stem cell transplant can help prevent chronic graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), a condition where transplanted immune cells attack your body. You'll receive dental cleanings and be followed for one year to see if this simple preventive step reduces GVHD complications.

Who can take part

  • You are at least 18 years old
  • You had a stem cell or bone marrow transplant from an unrelated donor (matched at 9 or 10 out of 10 markers) or from cord blood
  • You still have your own teeth (not completely without teeth)
  • You did not receive certain GVHD prevention drugs: post-transplant cyclophosphamide, ruxolitinib, or anti-thymocyte globulin in your conditioning
  • You can travel to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center for a follow-up visit one year after enrollment
  • You are able to understand and sign consent forms (or have a legal representative do so)
