  • Age 18–80 years old
  • Brain injury occurred 7–90 days ago
  • Diagnosed with a disorder of consciousness (vegetative state, unresponsive wakefulness state, or minimally conscious state) confirmed by two assessments
  • Healthy, intact skin on both hands
  • Not taking certain medications continuously (sedatives, some seizure drugs, or certain pain medications)
  • No implanted devices like pacemakers, deep brain stimulators, or shunts
