This study compares two steroid medications to reduce brain swelling caused by cancer that has spread to the brain. You'll receive one of these steroids while undergoing radiation therapy, and researchers will track how well each helps your symptoms.

Who can take part

  • Age 18–75 with functional limitations mainly from brain swelling symptoms
  • At least one brain tumor with swelling confirmed by MRI or CT scan
  • Scheduled for whole-brain radiation (30 Gy over 10 sessions or 20 Gy over 5 sessions) or focused radiation to specific tumors (20–40 Gy, maximum 5 tumors, each ≤5 cm)
  • Expected to live at least 3 months
  • No emergency brain surgery needed and stable neurological symptoms
  • Blood sugar reasonably controlled (if diabetic, HbA1c ≤8%)
