  • You are 18 years old or older
  • You are having planned heart surgery that uses a heart-lung machine (cardiopulmonary bypass)
  • You are able to give informed consent to participate
  • Your surgery is scheduled in advance (not an emergency)
  • You are not already taking antithrombin supplements before surgery
  • You do not have a severe inherited bleeding or clotting disorder
