Coagulation of Middle Meningeal Artery During Brain Bleed Surgery

Chronic Subdural Hematomas

This trial tests a new technique during surgery for chronic subdural haematoma (bleeding between the brain and skull) where doctors use heat or special tools to seal a blood vessel (the middle meningeal artery) to help prevent the bleed from returning. The goal is to see if this addition to standard surgery is safe and feasible.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You have chronic or subacute subdural haematoma (bleeding in the space around the brain that has been there for weeks or months) that needs burr-hole surgery (a small drainage procedure)
  • Your surgeon believes the added technique to seal the artery is safe and possible for your case
  • You can complete a follow-up visit 90 days after surgery
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding (due to CT scan radiation)
  • You have not had previous treatment to block this artery on the same side of your head
