Who can take part
- You have been diagnosed with CLL or SLL that meets standard diagnostic criteria and has not been treated with cancer therapy before
- Your cancer is causing symptoms or has grown enough that it needs treatment (enlarged spleen/lymph nodes, weight loss, fever, night sweats, or blood cell problems)
- You are at least 18 years old and able to swallow pills by mouth
- Your blood counts and liver/kidney function are adequate (unless your low blood counts are caused by cancer in your bone marrow)
- You are not pregnant or breastfeeding, and if able to have children, you agree to use effective birth control during the trial and for 1 month after (longer for men)
- You do not have serious heart disease, active infection, or another cancer expected to shorten your life
