Who can take part
- You must have a confirmed diagnosis of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) or small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL) and meet the standard criteria for needing treatment.
- You cannot have had any prior treatment for CLL/SLL, except for local radiation or low-dose steroids for other conditions.
- Your overall health should be fairly good (able to care for yourself, up and about at least half the day).
- Your blood counts (infection-fighting cells, platelets, and hemoglobin) must be within acceptable ranges, unless low counts are clearly due to the disease in your bone marrow.
- Your liver and kidney function must be adequate, and your heart rhythm should not have significant abnormalities.
- You must be willing to use effective contraception during the trial and for a short time after, if applicable.
