Performance Prediction

This research study tests whether certain thinking and hearing skills can predict how much benefit you'll get from a cochlear implant (a device that helps deaf or hard-of-hearing people hear). If you qualify, you'll take some tests that measure how your brain processes sound and language.

Who can take part

  • You must be 18 years old or older
  • You must be able to understand and agree to participate (have decision-making capacity)
  • You must be fluent in English, since the tests use English words and sentences
  • You must be able to hear and understand spoken speech reasonably well (the hearing tests require this)
  • You must be able to see medium-sized text on a computer screen from about 2 feet away, without correction aids if needed
  • You cannot be pregnant, a prisoner, or a student/trainee of the study's lead researcher
