- Age 18–70 years old
- Newly diagnosed nasopharyngeal cancer (throat cancer) confirmed by biopsy, stage I–III, without spread to distant organs
- Scheduled to receive radiation therapy (IMRT) as primary treatment and have never received cancer treatment before
- Good overall health and adequate organ function (normal blood counts, liver, and kidney function)
- Able to swallow and take pills by mouth without difficulty
- Willing to avoid smoking, alcohol, and betel nut during the study
