Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You are scheduled for elective (planned, non-emergency) surgery to reverse or close an ileostomy, colostomy, or ileocolostomy
  • You do not have a skin infection where the nerve block needle would go
  • You are not taking opioid pain medications regularly (chronic use)
  • Your surgery is expected to take 2.5 hours or less
  • You do not have serious heart, liver, or kidney problems, or blood clotting disorders
