Who can take part
- At least 18 years old with Stage III or IV periodontitis (moderate-to-severe gum disease with bone loss)
- In general good health with no serious medical conditions that would make surgery risky
- Non-smoker or smoke fewer than 10 cigarettes per day
- Already completed initial gum therapy (cleaning, deep scaling) with specific remaining pockets or bone defects
- Very good oral hygiene with less than 20% plaque or bleeding when examined
- Not pregnant, not taking long-term antibiotics, and no active gum infections
