Who can take part

  • You have chronic coronary artery disease (blocked heart arteries that develop slowly) OR a heart attack without ST elevation OR leg pain from poor circulation OR severe leg ischemia (very poor blood flow to the legs)
  • Your kidneys are working adequately (not in severe failure)
  • You do not have severe heart valve disease or advanced heart failure
  • Your liver is functioning reasonably well (not advanced disease)
  • You do not have a chronic autoimmune or inflammatory condition like rheumatoid arthritis or lupus
  • You are not currently taking anti-inflammatory drugs (like certain corticosteroids) and do not have an active infection or recent surgery
