Who can take part

  • Moderate to severe nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy (a specific stage of diabetic eye disease) confirmed by eye exam
  • Vision of 20/40 or better in the study eye (able to read a line on the eye chart)
  • No swelling in the center of the retina (the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye)
  • Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes with blood sugar control under a certain level (HbA1c below 12%)
  • No prior laser treatment or certain eye injections within the last 6 months
  • Not pregnant or breastfeeding
