Who can take part
- Moderate to severe nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy (a specific stage of diabetic eye disease) confirmed by eye exam
- Vision of 20/40 or better in the study eye (able to read a line on the eye chart)
- No swelling in the center of the retina (the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye)
- Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes with blood sugar control under a certain level (HbA1c below 12%)
- No prior laser treatment or certain eye injections within the last 6 months
- Not pregnant or breastfeeding
