  • You are at least 18 years old
  • You are in the ICU with acute hypoxemic respiratory failure (difficulty getting enough oxygen into your blood)
  • You are receiving high-flow nasal cannula (a tube delivering oxygen at higher rates than standard oxygen)
  • You joined the study within 24 hours of starting high-flow oxygen
  • You or your legal representative can provide informed consent
  • You do not have an active do-not-resuscitate order limiting your medical treatment
