Who can take part
- You are scheduled for heart surgery that uses a heart-lung machine (cardiopulmonary bypass)
- Your BMI is 40 or lower (not severely obese)
- Your surgery is planned in advance, not an emergency
- You don't have advanced congenital heart disease (a heart condition you were born with)
- You don't have significant lung disease
- Your heart is stable enough without very high doses of blood-pressure support medication
