This trial tests a minimally invasive jaw surgery (arthroscopy) to treat a specific jaw disc problem that hasn't improved with conservative treatments like physical therapy or mouth guards. Who can take part

  • You are 18 years old or older
  • You have been diagnosed with disc displacement without reduction (a jaw disc that doesn't move back into place) confirmed by MRI
  • You have limited mouth opening and have tried at least 3 months of conservative treatment (physical therapy, splints, or medications) without sufficient improvement
  • You have never had jaw joint surgery before
  • You do not have osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or other degenerative jaw joint conditions
  • You are willing to attend follow-up visits and can commit to the study timeline

Sugar water injection vs. jaw washing for jaw clicking and pain

This trial tests whether a simple injection of sugar water (dextrose 5%) into the jaw joint helps more than a standard jaw-washing procedure (arthrocentesis) for people whose jaw disc slips out of place (anterior disc displacement) and who haven't improved with physical therapy.

Sugar injections for jaw joint pain: comparing two doses

This clinical trial tests whether injecting a sugar solution (dextrose) into the jaw joint can reduce pain and improve function. It compares a 25% concentration to a 10% concentration in people whose jaw disc moves out of place but goes back in (with a click). You will not know which dose you receive.
