Who can take part

  • You have been diagnosed with an acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI)—a serious type of heart attack requiring emergency treatment
  • You need emergency heart catheterization (a procedure where a thin tube is threaded through blood vessels to the heart)
  • You are able to take blood-thinning medications long-term after the procedure
  • You are willing to sign a consent form and have a family member or authorized representative who can support your participation
  • You are conscious and able to communicate
  • You do not have severe heart failure or cardiogenic shock (your heart is not too weak to pump blood)
