Weight Loss Preparation Before Gastric Bypass Surgery

This study compares three different approaches to help you lose weight before a specific type of gastric bypass surgery. You'll be randomly assigned to receive either a new medication (tirzepatide), follow a special high-fat diet, or receive standard care before your surgery.

Who can take part

  • Age 18–65 years old
  • BMI between 40–55 kg/m² (a measure of body weight relative to height)
  • At least one weight-related health condition, such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or sleep apnea
  • Have tried other weight loss methods that didn't work long-term
  • No previous stomach or weight-loss surgery
  • No recent use of GLP-1 medications (like Ozempic or Mounjaro) in the past 12 months
