Twice-nightly treatment for narcolepsy or idiopathic hypersomnia
Part of Brain & nervous system, Mental health clinical trials.
This study tests whether taking the sleep medicine Xywav two times each night is safe and helps control symptoms better than a placebo. People with narcolepsy or idiopathic hypersomnia may join, including those who have not tried oxybate medicines before.
Summary written for real people, not researchers, by Clin2.
Who can take part
- Diagnosed with narcolepsy (type 1 or 2) or idiopathic hypersomnia (IH)
- For narcolepsy type 1, have had at least 14 cataplexy attacks (sudden muscle weakness) in a typical two-week period
- For IH, sleep at least 7 hours per night on average
- Either currently taking a stable dose of an oxybate medicine for at least 2 months, or have significant daytime sleepiness (Epworth score > 11) if not on oxybate
- Must be able to stop certain other medicines (like alerting agents or anticataplectics) during the study

This study tests a new drug called E2086 to see if it can help reduce daytime sleepiness and sudden muscle weakness in adults with narcolepsy. It involves two groups: people with cataplexy (type 1) and those without (type 2).
This trial tests whether low-dose sodium oxybate can improve symptoms in adults with idiopathic hypersomnia, a condition that causes excessive sleepiness. You’d likely be asked to pause this standard treatment briefly while baseline testing is completed, and you’d use reliable contraception during and after the study drug.
This trial tests an experimental drug called ORX750 for people with narcolepsy or idiopathic hypersomnia. You would need to stop your current sleepiness medicines to see if ORX750 helps reduce daytime sleepiness.
This study tests whether a low-sodium form of oxybate can reduce symptoms like dizziness, rapid heartbeat, and fatigue in people with both idiopathic hypersomnia and POTS. If you have these two conditions and haven't tried oxybate before, this trial may be a good fit.
This trial tests a new medicine called ALKS 2680 for people with Idiopathic Hypersomnia (a condition that causes extreme sleepiness without a clear cause). The goal is to see if it is safe and effective at helping you stay awake during the day.
This study tests a new medicine, HBS-301, for people with narcolepsy type 1 or type 2 who still have excessive daytime sleepiness. If you take other medications for sleepiness or mood, they must be stable for at least 3 months, and you cannot take some as-needed sleepiness medicines.
