Who can take part
- You have stage II or stage III periodontitis (moderate to advanced gum disease with bone loss)
- You are 25 years old or older
- You are not pregnant, nursing, or postmenopausal
- You do not have diabetes, heart disease, metabolic syndrome, osteoporosis, AIDS, or chronic alcoholism
- You do not smoke more than 10 cigarettes per day, or have not smoked regularly for at least 5 years
- You are not currently taking medications that affect bone metabolism, such as corticosteroids, bisphosphonates, anticoagulants, or drugs for arthritis or epilepsy
