New Nerve Stimulation Device for Hard-to-Treat Epilepsy

This study tests a new implanted device that stimulates the vagus nerve (a major nerve in your neck) to help reduce seizures in people whose epilepsy doesn't respond well to medications. The device is surgically placed under the skin and may help lower how often you have seizures.

Who can take part

  • You are between 4 and 75 years old
  • You have focal or generalized seizures that haven't been controlled by at least two different anti-seizure medications tried at adequate doses
  • You have at least 4 seizures per month on average over the past 90 days
  • Your current anti-seizure medications have been stable (same dose) for at least 30 days
  • You are physically healthy enough to have surgery to place the implant
  • Your vagus nerve (in your neck) is healthy and suitable for the implant
