Comparing Two Vitamin D Drugs for Kidney Dialysis Patients

Lowering Parathyroid Hormone Level in Patients on Hemodioalysis

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You have secondary hyperparathyroidism (overactive parathyroid gland caused by kidney disease) with high PTH levels in your blood
  • You have been on hemodialysis (kidney machine treatment) for at least 3 months
  • You are currently taking calcitriol (a vitamin D medication) and can pause it for 40 hours before starting the trial
  • Your baseline calcium and phosphate levels are within safe ranges (calcium ≤10 mg/dL, phosphate ≤5.5 mg/dL)
  • You do not have primary hyperparathyroidism, active cancer, liver disease, or allergy to vitamin D medications
