Etelcalcetide for preserving vitamin K protein activity in dialysis patients

Who can take part

  • You must be 18 or older and on long-term hemodialysis (three times a week).
  • Your parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels must be very high, over 500 pg/ml, on two recent blood tests.
  • You should have moderate calcium buildup in your main blood vessels (aorta or iliac arteries) or mild calcium buildup in your heart valves.
  • If you have used any oral calcimimetic drugs (like cinacalcet), you must have stopped them at least 30 days ago.
  • You cannot have had a parathyroidectomy (surgery to remove parathyroid glands) in the last 6 months or be planning one soon.
  • You must not have had certain bone diseases, uncontrolled thyroid problems, recent cancer, or be pregnant/nursing.
