Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 50 years old.
  • You have a recent or ongoing fracture of the spine at the chest-lower back junction (thoracolumbar area).
  • The fracture is a stable compression type (A2, A3, or A4) and does not involve spinal cord or nerve root compression.
  • If you have had surgery, it was done without disrupting the back supporting column (and no direct decompression of the spine).
  • If you are in the control group, you must have had two CT scans of your lower back at least one year apart for reasons unrelated to a back injury.
  • You do not have severe osteoporosis, other bone or joint diseases like arthritis, or a history of spine surgery.
