UDCA to protect kidneys during partial nephrectomy

This clinical trial is testing whether a medicine called ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) can help protect the kidneys during partial nephrectomy (removing only the tumor while keeping the healthy part of the kidney). It is for people with early-stage kidney tumors who will have temporary interruption of blood flow to the kidney during surgery.

Who can take part

  • You have a kidney tumor (stage T1) and are scheduled for surgery to remove only part of the kidney.
  • You are between 18 and 75 years old.
  • Your kidney function (eGFR) is 30 or higher.
  • You don't have a history of allergy to the study drug (UDCA) or certain bile acid medicines.
  • You haven't had major surgery on your kidney or a kidney transplant in the past.
  • You are not taking certain medicines (like strong antibiotics or bile acid drugs) that could interfere with the study.
