  • You are between 60 and 100 years old
  • You are scheduled for a first-time elective knee replacement surgery on one knee
  • You are healthy enough for spinal anesthesia and the numbing shots used in this study
  • You are not allergic to any of the study medicines (ropivacaine, dexamethasone, dexmedetomidine)
  • You do not have a bleeding disorder or take blood thinner that would make nerve blocks unsafe
