Who can take part

  • You must be at least 18 years old
  • You need to be on a breathing machine (ventilator) for reasons other than lung failure (for example, coma, trauma, or severe infection)
  • Monitoring must start within the first 24 hours after the breathing tube is placed
  • You must not have a collapsed lung, air in the chest, or air under the skin
  • You must not be pregnant
  • You must not have any reason that prevents using a feeding tube or a special lung-monitoring belt
