  • You are between 18 and 80 years old.
  • You are scheduled for a planned (not emergency) major lower back surgery for the first time.
  • You are classified as ASA I, II, or III (a standard measure of overall health).
  • You are not pregnant and do not have kidney failure, a bleeding disorder, or anemia.
  • You are willing to give written permission to join the study.
