This trial tests a new type of vaccine (dendritic cells) injected directly into the spinal fluid, combined with either trastuzumab (if your breast cancer is HER2-positive) or nivolumab (if your breast cancer is HER2-negative). The goal is to see if this combination can better control breast cancer that has spread to the lining of the brain and spinal cord.

Who can take part

  • You have breast cancer that has been confirmed by a biopsy or is clearly seen on scans, and it has spread to the lining of your brain or spinal cord (leptomeningeal disease).
  • You have an Ommaya reservoir or similar device already in place to receive treatments into your spinal fluid.
  • You have had radiation therapy to your whole brain before starting the study.
  • Your daily steroid dose for brain swelling is low (≤4 mg dexamethasone or equivalent).
  • You are able to undergo regular brain MRIs with contrast dye.
