  • Age 6 to 18 years old
  • On hemodialysis for at least 6 months, 3 times per week
  • Weight between 25 and 110 pounds
  • Low potassium level (less than 5.5) and still making urine
  • Hemoglobin (red blood cell protein) between 9.5 and 12.5, with low iron stores
  • On a stable dose of an anemia medication (EPO) for at least 8 weeks
