MRI vs CT for diagnosing stroke quickly

This trial compares MRI and CT scans to see which is better at diagnosing a severe stroke caused by a large blocked artery. If you have had stroke symptoms for less than 6 hours and are eligible for either scan, you may help doctors choose the best test for future patients.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You have symptoms of a severe stroke from a large blocked artery in the brain
  • Your stroke symptoms started less than 6 hours ago
  • You have a high score on a stroke severity scale (NIHSS 10 or more)
  • You do not have a pacemaker or metal in your body that prevents MRI
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding
