Tests clot-mapping scans to predict recovery after stroke

This study compares two types of clot/brain-bleeding risk imaging scans to see which better predicts recovery in people with ischemic stroke. If you qualify and get the right timing and scan results, the trial may help doctors choose the best way to predict your prognosis.

Who can take part

  • You can sign informed consent (your permission to join the study).
  • You are age 18 to 80, of any sex.
  • Your stroke started less than 4.5 hours ago, or you are still within 4.5 hours but receiving the study approach after stroke onset (the trial focuses on timing after onset).
  • If you received treatment more than 4.5 hours after stroke onset, your CT/MRI scan results must meet specific “mismatch” measures: small core size and larger at-risk tissue.
  • You do not have standard reasons you cannot receive clot-busting treatment (rt-PA), if that applies to you.
  • You cannot join if you have contrast dye imaging problems, had major disability before the stroke, joined another study in the last 30 days, or you likely won’t live more than 1 year.
