Who can take part
- You are between 18 and 75 years old.
- You are having planned surgery on your stomach, liver, bile ducts, or pancreas with general anesthesia.
- You are in good enough health to be classified as ASA I, II, or III (a standard anesthesia risk score).
- You do not currently have hoarseness or any voice problems.
- You have not had surgery on your neck, vocal cords, or radiation to your neck area.
- You are not allergic to dexamethasone (a type of steroid) and do not have an active ulcer or uncontrolled diabetes.
