This trial tests if a supplement called alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) can protect against painful mouth sores caused by chemotherapy (FOLFOX-6) in people with colorectal cancer. If you are starting FOLFOX-6 for the first time for colorectal cancer, this study may help reduce treatment side effects.

Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older.
- You have been diagnosed with colorectal cancer and have not had chemotherapy before.
- Your doctor plans to treat you with the FOLFOX-6 chemotherapy regimen (as a first treatment, before or after surgery, or for advanced disease).
- Your liver and kidneys are working well enough (based on standard blood tests).
- Your blood counts (white cells, infection-fighting cells, and platelets) are within a safe range.
- You are not pregnant, breastfeeding, allergic to alpha-lipoic acid, or currently taking other antioxidant supplements.
